SUMMER WATERSPORTS CLUB – Multi Activity days for young people – Schools, Youth Groups, and Individuals

Multi activity sessions for 8 to 16 years old.

  • Full, half day, and evening sessions
  • Weekdays and evenings for schools and youth groups during term time
  • Four seperate changing rooms to cater for mixed groups of up to 40
  • Week days and weekends throughout the school holidays for individuals
  • Exciting Give-it-a Go-sessions with informal coaching
  • Subject to conditions and instructor availability, young people get to try sailing, kayaking, powerboating, paddleboarding, raft building, watersports games and more.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

PAY & PLAY, TASTER SESSIONS, CLUB SESSIONS, LOG HOURS/HIRE

Paddleboarding – Sailing – Kayaking

  • Pay & Play independent sessions for 1 hour to 3 hours, informal instruction and buoyancy aid provided. Weather dependent, not bookable.
  • Taster Sessions small pre arranged groups of 3 or more with a dedicated watersports instructor for two hours, call 0151 929 7707 to arrange.
  • Club Sessions regular sessions hosted by a qualified instructor, activities dependent on conditions on the day, book online or call 0151 606 2010.
  • Log Hours or Hire of our equipment for 1 to 3 hours, proof of a formal National Governing Body qualification such as RYA Level 2 Dinghy Sailing is required.
  • Book On The Lake pay for the day (free to members) and launch your own craft. Book online using your free Leisure Hub account.

All sessions subject to weather conditions, instructor availability, and participant capability following a brief induction.

RYA Youth Sailing Stage 1 to 4 Dinghy Sailing

Minimum 8 years of age

  • Stage 1 to 3, 30 hours over one week with no previous experience required.  This course starts with the absolute basics and progresses to include rigging, launching and recovery, capsize recovery, sailing theory and building confidence in a range of sailing techniques. Includes plenty of time for fun and games on the water. Some participants may not attain Stage 3 completely.
  • Stage 4, regular sailing experience required: MUST have RYA Stage 3 completed. Children should have logged sailing hours within the last year. This course is a recap on Stage 3 during the first day, followed by intensive training transferring their previously learned skills, techniques and manoeuvres to sailing crewed boats. Improved rigging, launching, and recovery, including practical skills such as man overboard and capsize recovery.

If you are unsure of your child’s ability to complete Stage 4, please contact the centre and ask to discuss this with one of our senior instructors.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

RYA Youth Windsurfing Stage 1- 3

Minimum 8 years of age

  • Stage 1 – No prior experience necessary.  Stage 1 is the ideal first introduction to windsurfing, teaching the basics of getting on the water and sailing the board across the wind and back.
  • Stage 2 – Required experience: skills to the standard of Stage 1.  This course covers the practical skills to get you sailing around, tacking and gybing, and enabling you to make progress towards and away from the wind.
  • Stage 3 – Required experience: skills to the standard of Stage 3.  This course aims to enhance the practical skills and knowledge gained in Stage 2 plus learn how to hook into the harness and get going in stronger winds.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

RYA Adult Sailing Level 1 to 3 Dinghy Sailing

For adults and older teens (+16)

  • Start Sailing Level 1 – No prior experience necessary.  A two day or 16-hour introduction to dinghy sailing for complete beginners, covering everything you need to get afloat under supervision.
  • Basic Skills Level 2 – Required experience:  skills to the standard of L1 sailing.  Over two days or 16 hours this course builds your confidence and develops your skills; by the end of the course, you’ll be a competent sailor in light winds.
  • Better Sailing Level 3 and Advanced RYA modules (such as Seamanship Skills) are available on demand.

 

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

RYA Adult Windsurfing Start & Intermediate

For adults and older teens (+16)

  • Start Windsurfing (was Level 1) – No prior experience necessary.  A gentle introduction to windsurfing, covering the basics: turning the board around, sailing where you want to go and getting back to the shore.  The course runs over two days with 8-10 hours of tuition.
  • Intermediate Windsurfing: non-planing (was Level 2) – Required experience: skills to the standard of Start Windsurfing. This course aims to enhance techniques e.g. faster turns, beach starts and an introduction to the harness. The course runs over two days with 8-10 hours of tuition.

JOINING INSTRUCTIONS

RYA Powerboat Level 2 (PB2) & RYA Safety Boat

Powerboat Level 2 – (adults and juniors aged over 12)

A two-day course providing the skills and background knowledge needed by the competent powerboat driver and is the basis for the International Certificate of Competence.

Safety Boat – Required experience: MUST have powerboat level 2

This two-day course provides the skills required when acting as an escort craft, safety boat or coach boat for a fleet of dinghies, windsurfers or canoes, or for racing or training activities. It includes rescue techniques and elements of race management and mark laying. It is strongly recommended that a member of the rescue crew should hold a first aid certificate (or should have experience of first aid).

 
 

Buoyancy aid or life jacket and waterproof top provided, wear warm clothing, and wellies or old trainers.
