Active You

What is Active You? Active You is a brand new project aimed at encoraging residents aged 40-64 yrs to be active through building strength, balance and coordination to reduce falls in later life.

The aim of Active You is to create a movement for engaging and empowering residents across the borough in being active and reducing any barriers to being active to reduce health inequalities across Wirral.

The Active You project is funded by Public Health and is backed by research from a leading university. Research shows at least one‐third of community‐dwelling people over 65 years of age fall each year and we understand that early prevention of falls starts at a younger age.

As a result of this, exercises that target balance, gait and muscle strength have been found to prevent falls in these people.

Residents can enjoy a range of low level exercise sessions across the borough.

Being a part of the Active You movement is a resident led pathway to becoming more active.

As part of the programme, we want to hear from residents, movement makers, community connectors and healthcare professionals to understand the barriers residents face to being active and how we as Active You can support you to remove those barriers.

Throughout the Active You pathway, we will ensure you have access to a wide variety of activities within your community settings of libraries, parks, bowling greens, community centres, GP practices and leisure centres including swimming pools.

How to become an Active You? How to get involved?

If you are interested in being involved in a movement, looking into barriers around being active and how we can overcome those barriers to create movement pathways for residents to enjoy.

We will also create movement for everyone so physical activity can be part of everyone’s everyday life.
