ACADEMY WITH SWIM WIRRAL
ABOUT OUR ACADEMY
The Swim Wirral academy is a partnership between Swim Wirral, Wirral Metro Swimming Club and the swimming development programme of the Peninsular Group of Swimming Clubs. Wirral Metro, the performance club on the Wirral sits within the swimmer development pathway as shown below. The pathway provides the opportunity for all young swimmers to reach as high a level as they are capable of whilst being supported by a participating club.
The academy is a natural progression upon completion of ‘Learn to Swim’. It provides the opportunity for swimmers to continue learning and exploring new aquatic skills that are needed to participate in competitive swimming, whilst also reinforcing water confidence and lifesaving skills. There is the opportunity from the Academy for swimmers with ability to progress appropriately to any of the Peninsular Clubs participating in the swimming development pathway .
SESSIONS
The Academy will run on Tuesday or Thursday between 7pm and 8pm
at Europa Pools. The session will be run in a 25m format (length swimming) over 4 lanes.
The sessions will be run primarily by Lead Coaches Thomas Nelson and Harry Pickering, both of whom are Wirral Metro coaches and exNational Swimmers. The program will be designed by Martin Brookes (Head Coach Wirral Metro) and will allow a smooth transition from finishing Stage 7 to the academy to developing further competitive swimming skills.
WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Over that period the technique of all 4 strokes will be explored. These will include:
o Body position in the water
o Swim Kick
o Aquatic breathing
o Timing and rotation of strokes
Assessments are every 12 Weeks within the academy. Post academy the important thing is if your child enjoys swimming and wishes to continue their journey into competitive swimming, the opportunity will be made available through local clubs.
PATHWAY INFORMATION
A progressive development structure, all based locally on Wirral and all the steps needed to ensure your child attains their full swim potential.
